26/08/2020
In this report, you will find detailed information on European Business aviation traffic, in a geographic and weekly breakdown.
The Business aviation sector was heavily impacted by the crisis from mid-March onwards, reducing activity by up to 76% around mid-April. We observed a slight upturn at the end of May, that was confirmed in June and accelerated in July, with traffic at 10% below 2019 levels at the same time. Business aviation accounted for 17% of European air traffic in July compared with 6-7% in standard times.
Key learnings
- Business aviation is shaping the air transport recovery and has recovered significantly more than the airlines (at -67% at the end of July) but still isn’t back to normal.
- While airlines struggle to restart effectively, new customers are willing to pay a bit more for added travel flexibility, peace of mind and security in these unprecedented times.
- It remains to be seen if this demand will withstand the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and travel restrictions still being put in place by governments across Europe to mitigate its impact.
EBAA is actively and closely monitoring developments related to the COVID-19 outbreak. We work with European and global authorities, and other aviation organisation, to gather, filter and disseminate official guidance and information to our members, and the broader industry as it becomes available.
