Initiative on adoption of sustainable alternative jet fuels to be introduced at EBACE2018

The business aviation community has long been dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from aircraft, with a proven record of advances in carbon reduction, and that commitment will be on display during the 2018 European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2018) with the announcement of a new initiative focused on raising awareness and adoption of available and emerging alternative jet fuel options.

The introduction of the Business Aviation Guide to the Use of Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuels (SAJF) is set to take place as part of the annual EBACE Media Luncheon, held on 28 May from 13:00-14:30. A guide, which thoroughly details the SAJF initiative, will be available as a hand out during the luncheon and throughout the convention.

Previously, the industry’s commitment to emissions reduction was codified through the Business Aviation Commitment on Climate Change, unveiled in November 2009. Among the aims of that commitment are a 2-percent improvement in efficiency per year from 2010 until 2020, carbon-neutral growth from 2020 onwards, and a 50-percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, relative to 2005. The objectives are expected to be reached through advancements in four areas: more efficient operations, continuing infrastructure improvements, market-based measures and technology investment, including the development of alternative aircraft fuels.

The European Business Aviation Association is very proud to have contributed to this project that will aim to increase the availability of sustainable alternative jet fuel, ultimately encouraging more business aviation users towards the uptake of this type of fuel, which directly contributes towards our sector goals and therefore reducing our overall environmental impact

Juergen Wiese, Chairman - European Business Aviation Association

Industry and government leaders will speak at the announcement, including: Claudia Fusco, Head of Unit for Innovation, Directorate-General for Environment of the European Commission; Jean Rosanvallon, president and CEO of Dassault Falcon Jet; Juergen Wiese, chair of EBAA, Ed Bolen, president and CEO of NBAA; and David Coleal, chair of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association’s Environmental Committee and president, Bombardier Business Aircraft.

Also present will be Marc Mournier, head of service, environment and sustainable development for Geneva Airport, and leaders from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). GAMA, IBAC and NATA have joined with NBAA and EBAA in developing and launching the SAJF initiative.
