EBAA Advocates for Safety and Innovation at EASA's Business Jet Workshop

On January 21st and 22nd EASA hosted the 2nd edition of the Business Jets Workshop in Cologne . EBAA was present and vocal about the industry’s needs and safety topics.

The workshop brought together aviation authorities and stakeholders in the “Biz-Jets” design and certification sector to address ongoing and future challenges. It developed around certification aspects but with an eye on the global perspective and focused on regulatory developments, current and future challenges, and activities like new technologies and sustainable aviation to support the sector in the coming years.

In his keynote, EBAA Secretary-General Holger Krahmer provided a comprehensive overview of the state of business aviation, highlighting a modest 1% growth in European business jet movements compared to the previous year. Mr. Krahmer pointed out the clear interdependent relationship between business aviation and foreign direct investment (FDI), hinting at the industry’s alignment with the anticipated direction the Draghi report calls for. His presentation underscored the sector’s resilience amidst regulatory and operational challenges.

Safety took centre stage as Maxime Wauters, Senior Manager of Safety & Regulatory Affairs at EBAA, delivered a presentation on the growing threat of GPS jamming and spoofing. He addressed the alarming 500% surge in GPS spoofing incidents in 2024, particularly in high-risk zones like the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea. Wauters emphasised the critical impact on navigation systems and crew decision-making. Also, he outlined actionable recommendations, from enhanced crew training to adopting alternative navigation systems, ensuring operators are equipped to navigate these growing threats.
