BASIC 2024: Shaping the future of business aviation safety

BASIC 2024 launched a new era in business aviation safety by bringing together diverse industry stakeholders to openly share ideas, build trust, and collaborate on real-world challenges. Through interactive sessions and focused “tribes,” participants moved beyond quick fixes toward deeper understanding and collective solutions.

On November 12–13, 2024, EBAA organised BASIC 2024, the first-ever rebranded annual Business Aviation Safety Innovation Conference (BASIC). The event brought together a unique mix of people united by one shared goal: making business aviation safer, better, and stronger for everyone. The focus of the event revolved around the people in the industry, listening to each other, learning together, and working side by side to find the answers that only collaboration can reveal.

Why BASIC ?

EBAA as an organisation is committed to elevating safety standards across the business aviation industry. The safety conference, BASIC, wasn’t designed to give quick fixes to complex challenges. Instead, it aims to find solutions to pre-existing safety issues that might not be immediately clear, whilst acknowledging the realities the industry faces, and finding ways to move forward.

Through open discussions, breakout work, and genuine exchanges, BASIC put the spotlight on some of the most pressing issues in business aviation: safety culture, training, risk management, and collaboration.

The breakout sessions tackled a wide range of issues, from ground handling and SMS implementation to new ways of promoting safety and addressing emerging risks like GPS spoofing. Each breakout felt like its own unique ecosystem, where participants brought their expertise, questions, and ideas. And through this collaborative energy, solutions and insights began to emerge, not from one person or organisation, but from everyone in the room.

Collaboration is everything

What makes this particular event so valuable is the collaboration that happens at every level. EBAA works with industry stakeholders like GAMA, IBAC, and regulators like EASA  to ensure the right voices are in the room, fostering a fruitful debate.  Also, BASIC is not a one-off event. This conference is the annual highlight of an ongoing EBAA initiative that includes webinars, workshops, and collaborative projects.

Stay engaged and get involved

BASIC 2024 set the stage for continued collaboration and progress in business aviation safety. By addressing real-world challenges and fostering open dialogue, we continue to take meaningful steps toward improving safety standards across the industry.
