European Business aviation traffic tracker (February 2021)

Using EUROCONTROL data, we have compiled the European Business aviation traffic figures for February 2021.

In this report, you will find detailed information on European Business aviation traffic, in a geographic and weekly breakdown.

The year 2020 was the worst year in the civil aviation history. Compared to 2019, 2020 represents a loss of 160,000 Business aviation flights (-25%), which is about an average of 450 less daily flights.

It is now been almost one year since the start of the crisis and the first -71% activity dive. Similarly to January 2021 and with 34.000 flights, the European Business aviation activity stabilised around –27% compared with February 2020 (compared to normal levels).

Key learnings

  • January reinforces the trend observed in January. Europe is divided into 3 zones. In Eastern Europe, Business aviation is “globally” experiencing a positive start of the year (compared to 2020). Western Europe (accounting for the biggest business aviation markets) remains the part the most impacted by the pandemic (all markets are in the red). Northern Europe is slightly negative but globally stable.
  • 2/3 of the top 30 airports pairs are domestic flights, illustrating the major shift triggered by the border closures and all occasioned measures.
  • Almost one year of COVID19 brought some new trends on the industry, compared with the industry in its “usual” configuration. In the current state of the market, Business aviation is clearly driven by short distance, light airplanes, commercial Business aviation.
