Access to airspace is a key priority for European Business aviation, which sometimes is challenging for our sector.
Business aviation, unlike many other forms of aviation, can fly to all types of airfields and flight levels. Our aircraft are able to operate, at both low and high altitudes and fly as fast as Mach 0.9. However, the way the European airspace is being controlled is outdated and makes for an inefficient use of air travel.
The Single European Sky (SES) is a European Commission initiative that seeks to reform the European air traffic management system (ATM). The SES objectives are to better use scarce airspace resources, to reduce the fragmentation of European airspace management, and to optimise the flight trajectory without being constrained by airspace configuration or national boundaries.
EBAA calls on reflecting Business aviation ‘s operational specificities in the reform of the European Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. The Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Systems (CNS) are key enablers to pave the way for the ATM transformation, in the air and on the ground.
Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) is the European air traffic control infrastructure modernisation programme. SESAR aims to develop an improved ATM system capable of ensuring the safety and fluidity of air transport worldwide over the next 30 years.
EBAA actively contributes to the SESAR programme. Together with our experts, we built a consortium to work on the new system deployment and SESAR solutions, which will mandate aircraft and ATM ground infrastructure.
The objectives of EBAA are to ensure that the SES requirements;
EBAA closely monitors the regulatory developments of the technical SES mandates, including CNS.
EBAA advocates for CNS-ATM paradigm shift to be well synchronised among all ATM stakeholders, based on a positive cost and benefit analysis for Business aviation operators.
